Why Were We So Keen To See Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland?
We had been waiting and waiting and waiting for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland movie for what seemed like forever. I'm sure that it was the better part of a year that passed between the airing of the first trailer and the release of the movie. The original trailer was pretty flimsy; just enough to let us know that it was coming and to get us talking about the movie.
I'm not sure why we were so fascinated with this movie.
- Could it be because we watched the Walt Disney version of Alice in Wonderland when my boys were younger?
- Could it be because we had a magical birthday party for one of my sons complete with a tiny door to enter through, potion to drink and a Mad Hatter's tea party?
- Could it be because we went to the Queen's tea party at the Children's Museum every year for years?
- Could it be because we've seen a few other versions of Alice's story on television?
- Could it be because we love many of Tim Burton's movies like Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, the Nightmare Before Christmas and A Corpse Bride?
- Could it be because we love many of Johnny Depp's movies and certainly all of them that are rated PG?
Whatever the reason, I was sure glad when the movie finally arrived. My son was not interested in doning a costume nor a Mad Hatter's hat for the movie but he was MOST DEFINITELY interested in going. We went, we enjoyed ourselves and now, on June 10, 2010, we can finally own our own copy of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland and although it was not my favorite movie of all time, I cannot help but wonder if this movie will go on to be a cult favorite...

I think that visually it was amazing. Strange but amazing!
A very different movie and one we enjoyed as a family - my sons laughed endlessly at the size of the queens head :)
The little britain guy made the movie for me! (tweedle dum... or was it tweedle dee?)
Billy, you have me wondering how old your sons are and hutchy-rants, I feel like I really know all of those characters having seen and known them all for so long. My son even played Tweedle Dee once, at least I think it was Dee and not Dum. I'll have to ask him if he remembers. I particularly liked the Mad Hatter and the Red Queen.
I LOVE that Mad Hatter bag!
This movie was really enjoyable. I liked the premise of Alice's return and how she was an integral part of their culture and prophecy. Plus Tim Burton is great, isn't he? So is Depp. I love the scene where he was making hats for the big headed Queen while shackled.
I usually end up seeing Johnny Depp movies long after the fact. It may be time for me to watch this one...looking forward to it.
